SOLO EXHIBITION

The Artist

Joanne Cope has specialized in painting cattle for more than 15 years. She began her career as a graphic artist, and her cow paintings benefit from uncomplicated yet striking compositions as a result.

Using dramatic lighting and depth of field, Joanne creates images that are cinematic and contemporary, yet almost feel as if they are from a bygone era. Her use of a muted palette and soft brushwork accentuate this.

Most of her cattle are painted as close to life size as possible, to fully communicate the size, strength and raw power of the animals. Joanne also paints other wildlife such and stags and hares and all are set within abstractions of their natural habitats. These backgrounds of texture and tone enhance the aesthetic beauty of the composition but do not detract from the detail in the subjects themselves.
